Upping your summer beauty and skincare game just got easier with our favorite natural beauty hacks. Even better, many of these hacks are DIY and sourced from your pantry or fridge. Plus, if you want to show some love for planet earth, we’ve included natural and sustainable beauty products for you to try, too. Let’s get hacking!
Summer Beauty Hack No. 1: Lip exfoliation with DIY scrub + spoolie
Dry, flaky lips bumming you out this summer? We hear you! To get your lips smooth and shiny, dab some of your favorite natural lip balm on a finger tip, then dip it in sugar. Apply the balm-sugar combo to your lips and scrub gently with your finger or an eyebrow spoolie. Next, use a warm, damp washcloth to whisk the debris away. You can shop our eco-friendly brow brush and spoolie, Take a Bow Brow Duo, here.
Summer Beauty Hack No. 2: Overnight hand renewal with moisturizing gloves
While sugar may not be good for our waistlines, it’s a key ingredient in this natural hand scrub recipe. Before bed, make a paste with cold-pressed coconut oil and brown sugar, rub on hands for about a minute, and rinse. Then massage your favorite lotion onto hands and slip into a pair of moisturizing gloves, like Urban Spa’s sustainable Must-Have Moisturizing Gloves. In the morning, rinse hands clean to reveal soft, silky skin, smooth cuticles and stronger nails.
Summer Beauty Hack No. 3: Full-body exfoliation with DIY lemon body scrub
We’re not done with sugar yet! This lemon body scrub recipe has been circulating on the web for over a decade and still works great today, especially for a pre-self-tan exfoliation. Make this paste with 1 cup or 250 grams of sugar, the juice of one lemon (the citric acid naturally breaks down dead, dry skin) and one tablespoon of cold-pressed coconut oil (for moisturizing). Apply to body and gently rub skin to exfoliate. Follow up with a circulation-boosting wash with the assistance of an All Natural Sea Sponge and your favorite natural, moisturizing cream or self-tanner.
Summer Beauty Hack No. 4: Remove waterproof mascara and make-up with natural oils and sustainable tools
Why waste money on over-the-counter make-up removers in plastic bottles or packaging when you don’t have to? Simply grab your favorite olive oil or coconut oil and one of our moistened Fabulous Face Sea Sponges to remove waterproof mascara and make-up the sustainable way. Unlike cotton balls and face wipes, natural sponges are easy to clean and reuse—that means less waste and less impact on the environment.
Summer Beauty Hack No. 5: Get swimsuit ready with dry brushing for healthier skin
Dry brushing before (or during) your shower is a great way to prevent ingrown hairs and achieve healthier skin this summer as it stimulates circulation and promotes lymphatic drainage. Our Bamboo Bikini Brush has soft, gentle bristles ideal for your daily routine! This bikini brush made of sisal and bamboo can be used as a full-body brush and is designed to gently exfoliate the dry layers of skin so that hair grows in properly. You’ll love the results and feel more confident this bikini season.
Summer Beauty Hack No. 6: Tame summer fly-aways and dry hair with moisturizing hair products
The sun, wind and chlorine can all wreak havoc on our tresses during the summer months. Fortunately, you do have natural options when it comes to hair products for moisture. If you have dry, coarse, curly or wavy hair, Urban Spa has answers! Our Moisture Magnet Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner (shop the Moisture Magnet Bundle here) drenches hair and locks in moisture along with vitamins, minerals and essential fatty and amino acids. Style hair with an all-natural hair brush (like our vegan Massaging Hair Brush), and you’ll look and feel FANTASTIC.
